The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company unveiled a demonstration tire comprised of 90% sustainable materials. This demonstration tire has passed all applicable regulatory testing as well as Goodyear’s internal testing.

At last year’s CES show, Goodyear showed off a 70% sustainable tire, which included 13 “featured ingredients” across nine tire components. At this year’s CES, they’ve upped their game and are now demonstrating a 90% sustainable tire, with 17 ingredients across 12 components.

The new tire has been said to have passed Goodyear’s internal testing and all applicable regulatory testing.

This 90% sustainable-material demonstration tire includes 17-featured ingredients across 12 different components. Goodyear has announced that they would be using several environmentally material that includes sources like soybean oil, rice husk silica, post-consumer polyester, and bio-renewable pine tar resins.

This demonstration tire also tested to have lower rolling resistance when compared to the reference tire, made with traditional materials. Lower rolling resistance means this demonstration tire has the potential to offer better fuel savings and carbon footprint reduction.

Some of Goodyear's current product lines show the transition to sustainable materials. Today, soybean oil is used in eight product lines including some racing tyres. Additionally, since 2018, Goodyear has increased its use of RHA silica in its product lines by more than twofold. With market-based solutions, Goodyear is displaying a real commitment to creating a sustainable future.
