Estée Lauder launches its Voice-Enabled Makeup Assistant (VMA) application. This is a first-of-its-kind, artificial intelligence-powered mobile app to help visually impaired users more easily and confidently apply makeup.
The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) UK & Ireland has launched its Voice-Enabled Makeup Assistant (VMA) application . This is a first-of-its-kind, artificial intelligence-powered mobile app to help visually impaired users more easily and confidently apply makeup.
ELC's Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence capabilities, which were created using machine learning, power VMA's innovative smart mirror technology. When applying makeup, VMA uses voice teaching technology to help the user; they hear audio feedback and advice on whether their lipstick, eyeshadow, or foundation is applied evenly.
ELC's VMA uses AI to recognise cosmetics on a user's face and evaluate the uniformity, borders, and coverage of the application. Any parts of the face that that need more precise application are identified by VMA, and it audibly communicates any locations that would need touch-ups.
The VMA App will first be available on esteelauder.co.uk and the UK's Apple App Store. The first company to use and advertise this technology will be the Estée Lauder brand in the UK. The Google Play store and additional ELC brands and markets are expected to offer it within the year.
Future versions of the application will offer expanded services, with the goal of providing new features, including looks to choose from, and makeup education tools to help visually impaired users better utilize ELC’s products and services.
ELC hopes that this app will help and empower visually impaired consumers who expressed the need for technology with more independence to apply their makeup with confidence. The launch is the first iteration of the app, intended to be continuously optimized and improved over the coming months.
